Because i was craving smoked salmon so bad and London is the best place to do grocery-shopping (second to Paris, bien sûr)

I made myself a bowl of salad! so simply yet homey. I stopped by Sainsbury's at 11pm on my way back and got a bag of crispy lettuce, Scottish smoked salmon, and vinaigrette dressing. and voila my supper at midnight! kind of gratifying but i wish i had bought bacon, crouton, and cheese to top it off. Also, Sainsury's "sweet balsamic" is not all that great actually. I should have bought normal balsamic vinaigrette. But i just can't help but pick everything that has "sweet" in it. Oh well. But don't you just love those crispy juicy cherry tomatoes. Believe it or not i didn't discover their bursting their bursting deliciousness until this summer! not a veggies person here, so kind of tried to avoid them the whole time.

Seriously look at how perfectly boiled the egg yolks are. I totally could have done just with two semi-hard boiled eggs, white rice, and soy sauce. Those would make perfect comfort food.

Back at Brown my supper, if any, would be unhealthy carb-loaded noodles with 2-3 hard boiled eggs. Now that i have a decent kitchen to myself i think salad is a much better choice. ultra healthy, ultra Posh.

Oh well.

A few weeks ago I received an email from a magazine I sent my application to saying that they were interested in my application and had been trying to contact me to come in for a chat. Unsuccessfully of course. To which I replied, what an unfortunate lapse of time (read: fate) as I'm already in another country doing what I think is right for me. Man if only she had sent out that email a few weeks earlier our paths would have crossed. To which she replied, it's okay, you can still try and send in some writing/reviews seeing as London has a vibrant art&design scene. I think she's also put me on their staff email list, because I got newsfeeds on events and such. To be honest, I would love to work here rather than Wallpaper* since I appreciate its relative solid focus on art&design while Wallpaper* caters significantly to the international jetsetting elite. Plus it's a bilingual magazine and of course I write so much better in English. Below is a newsclip of an event co-sponsored by the magazine and other bodies that I received in my email. Oh well, i guess.

the first review

went okay i guess. but one thing for sure the bar has been raised and in future i have to either give it more thought or put in more efforts. or both. Samples of my stuff:

i need to blog this out loud before i go crazy

1st PROJECT + CRIT this TUESDAY! basically we have to create a design vision for this obsolete gigantic coaling pier that's too expense to remove yet quite a waste to be left standing.

Pretty fugly isnt it. The exercise was meant to be purely experimental and "outside the box "where economic realities can simply be disregarded. Since the site itself looks pretty theatrical, my design vision for this is to build a theatre stage! pretty fancy i know. there are a handful of architects and landscape architects in the program, so they are pretty well weathered and got tons of graphic design tools at their disposal. so a person like myself ended up photoshopping pictures all day today. BUT i don't think this is a disadvantage at all since photoshop can generate much more imaginative capacity. It's fun when you don't have to care about real-world constraints which you would seriously need to heed in, well, the real world. The assignment was given out almost *TWO WEEKS* ago and why did i not start until *TWO DAYS* ago?!

I just want this to be over with, so I can start unpacking, buying cooking utenstils&groceries, and decorating my room like a proper grad student! ugh.. long way.

Hello London

I left library at 7:30PM on Sunday on a starving stomach only to find out that everything was closed! this is almost as bad as Paris. welcome to London you say.

On a exceedingly surprising note, i've been allocated a room in a UCL hall! i checked out the room today and almost fainted because the flat is amaaaazing. my room is new and clean. the BEST part is that i have a big kitchen to myself! ok thats a lie because i have to share it with two other flatmates whom i haven't met. moving in this Wednesday. cheers to my post-hobo life... finally!

PS: i just looked at my blog archive and noticed that i only had 3 posts in August and 4 in September?!
